March Album Party - Frampton Comes Alive!

This month I’m excited to present a complete playback of the classic album Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive! This is a recent find from the HardCore Tiki Marketplace at the Bamboo Club, and a record I’ve always been fond of. It’s a great guitar album in the era of great guitarists. Recorded mostly at San Francisco’s legendary Winterland Ballroom in late 1975, you could not ask for a record more emblematic of its era.

The party is free to attend but RSVPs are required as space is limited in my bungalow.

Studio Updates

Last month’s shopwarming party was awesome and I’d like to thank everyone who came out. The shop is much warmer now. While all studios are continual works in progress, I feel pretty settled in and am back to work - mostly exploring 2d relief carvings (ie, on flat pieces of wood rather than logs).

I’ve been asked about building stereos that hang on the wall and these reliefs are a step in that direction. It’s a far out idea for sure. Contact me if you want one.

Shag House Visit

Last month I had the distinct pleasure of touring the famous Shag House in Palm Springs for Modernism Week. For those unfamiliar, this midcentury house has been completely done over by the sly artist Shag to look like one of his fanciful paintings. Not only is the attention to detail exquisite, but it’s just so fun. Who makes their houses fun anymore? Not many people, I’ll tell you.

Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town, and be sure to check out the Shag Store too!

Lowrider Exhibit

Okay, this one’s not exactly tiki, but I visited the Lowrider Exhibition at the Petersen Automotive Museum and it was so dope. I don’t have much contact with the lowrider scene, but these cars were so thoroughly done over and so vivid that I have to recommend a visit. The exhibit runs until May so don’t sleep on it! They’re too cool!
